BOSTON 25 NEWS TO AIR SPECIAL ON HIGH CANCER RATES AMONG BOSTON FIREFIGHTERS
BOSTON, MA – March 8, 2018 – Boston 25 News will present an hour-long news special titled, “Boston’s Bravest: Facing A Hidden Killer,” hosted by anchor Blair Miller on Tuesday, March 13th at 8 p.m. The powerful, in-depth report details cancer risks in the Boston Fire Department and looks at why so many rescuers are succumbing to occupational cancer.
Miller spent months with a Boston firefighter currently battling cancer and said the amount of access he was granted
while working on the story was humbling.
“Boston firefighters and their families allowed us to witness their journeys and see their battles in the rawest way possible,” said Miller. “I take the responsibility to tell their stories very seriously, and thank them for allowing our cameras into their lives so that viewers can see this important story beyond the statistics.”
A memorial wall inside Boston Fire Department Headquarters currently pays tribute to more than 190 firefighters who have died from exposure to carcinogens while on the job since 1990. “Boston’s Bravest” features interviews with young firefighters and seasoned veterans alike and explains changes in the types of fires putting rescuers’ lives at risk.
Miller sat down with Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn and Mayor Marty Walsh for answers to tough questions about what the fire department and city are doing to protect our local heroes, and why it took years to respond to the growing epidemic.
“Boston’s Bravest: Facing A Hidden Killer” airs Tuesday, March 13th at 8 p.m. on Boston 25, Boston25News.com and on the Boston 25 News App. The special will also be available on Boston25News.com and on the Boston 25 News App following Tuesday’s broadcast.
